From the April Bulletin:From the Educational Foundation: · LAF will become a fund of the Educational Foundation, retaining its name and functions, under the purview of the Foundation's Program Committee,
subject to governance by the Board. Current programs are continuing, including case support adoption and funding, Plaintiff Travel Grant Awards for state conventions, and the 2005 Progress in Equity Award. From the Legal Advocacy Fund: · LAF announced its support of a controversial case brought by a male plaintiff alleging gender discrimination in the University of Iowa's
parental leave policy. LAF contributed $5,000 to Johnson's case. It also will support his efforts through its network of members, legal practitioners, and experts in the field. · The AAUW LAF is supporting
Lisa Simpson v. University of Colorado at Boulder. The suit aims to hold the university responsible for the sexual harassment and assault of a female student by members of the football team and its recruits when the
university had ample knowledge of recurring incidents of sexual harassment and assaults and chose to do nothing to remedy the conduct. From the Association: · AAUW's
all-volunteer Capitol Hill Lobby Corps made over 1,100 visits to congressional offices last year, on issues ranging from Title IX, the Medicare prescription drug benefit and welfare to judicial nominations, pay equity,
to a myriad of education issues. This visible, vibrant presence of member advocates on the Hill is an integral part of advancing and defending AAUW's public priorities.
