               The Calling

Parents and Youth - A Time to Celebrate Together

Life can be so hectic in this day and age.  We get so caught up in our electronic gizmos and gadgets that we forget that God created us to celebrate our life together.  Here are a few questions you and your youth should ask yourselves to see how connected you are to each other:

Parents:

*What is your youth's favorite food?
*Does your youth's room have more blank wall space or more area covered with things?
*What is your youth's favorite thing to do on a Saturday?
*What was the last kind thing your youth did?
*What is your youth's favorite thing to read?

Youth:

*What does your parent(s) like to do for fun?
*What is your parent(s) favorite food?
*What is the last movie your parent(s) watched?
*Would you say your parent(s) took:  (a) lots  (b) some  (c) no pictures or you growing up?
*What is one of your parent's favorite sayings?

Looking at Things the Way Jesus Does - Read Matthew 5:14-16.  Then answer the following questions:

*What is Jesus talking about in this passage?
*In what ways do young people serve as lights to the world?
*In what ways are parents lights for their children?

A Time to Act

Create a luminary.  Youth - write words or phrases in which your parent(s) serves to light up your world and ways your parent(s) is a light of Christ.  Parents - do the same for the youth, writing how your youth lights up your world or serves as a light of Christ.
Be doers of the Word, and
not merely hearers
